The subject of our book, Wolf Laurel, is a spectacular 6000
acre Western North Carolina mountain development 35
miles north of Asheville on I-26 (exit 3), Wolf Laurel is a special
place bordered by two national forests and the legendary Appalachian
hiking trail. It provides championship golf, skiing, horseback riding,
tennis and many other outdoor activities. Its residents, mostly from
urban environments in the Eastern United States, have blended with the
largely rural and tradition-steeped citizenry of two North Carolina
counties in a unique and successful lifestyle. Looming over it all like a natural sentinel is the 5516 foot Big Bald Mountain, the highest peak in the Bald Mountains chain of the Southern Appalachians. In addition to its residents, Wolf Laurel is home to a variety of majestic trees, wildflowers, its namesake laurel and a variety of wild creatures ranging up to black bears and a multitude of deer. It is truly A Treasure in the Appalachian Sky. Residents are drawn to Wolf Laurel from throughout the United States and Canada. Today around 200 residents call Wolf Laurel home year round. They are joined by many second home owners drawn primarily from the Eastern and Southeastern United States. The community itself offers many recreational and cultural activities in its Villlage Club and Wolf Laurel Country Club enterprises and with the many attractions of nearby Asheville it is easy to see why so many consider the lifestyle A Treasure in the Appalachian Sky. |
